When I became a Mom nearly 4 years ago now I hit the net in search of other parents.
I discovered the world of blogging.
I stumbled upon blogs written by other parents and was amazed. Their day to day antics sounded just like mine! I quickly learned that I wasn’t totally crazy and found comfort in the fact that many of the things I did as a parent were also being done by others.
In the past two years there has been an incredible increase in parenting blogs. Some refer to them as “Mommy Blogs” but to be fair I’ve found just as many blogs written by dads out there too. However, I was also noticing an alarming trend. Many of blogs were growing to huge proportions, picking up corporate sponsorships and hiring professional writers. This was certainly a far cry from the personal experiences that I was hoping to find on the net. I began to feel disconnected and I began to yearn to just find a blog filled with parents that were down to earth.
Perhaps it was a moment of clarity, perhaps a moment of craziness, whatever it was, I decided that perhaps if I couldn’t find what I was looking for then I could CREATE what I was looking for. I envisioned a blog with multiple writers. I thought about my friends with children, my in-laws, my co-workers, and those people that I haven’t met in person but who I have maintained contact with in the online universe and I wondered if they would be willing to write.
What I hadn’t planned on? How excited everyone would be about my crazy idea. We’re starting this blog with 20 writers! Many have never blogged before, some have maintained their own blogs and others are somewhere in between.
All of us are blogging amateurs, plain and simple, we’re not paid professionals. We’re just parents and boy do we love to talk!
I do hope you’ll stick around. This site is new and there will be lots of updates in the next few days. In the meantime why don’t you get to know our writers a bit?
